Weuse thisand thesefor things near the speaker (this printout here).Thisgoes with a singular or uncountable noun, e.g. this report. Thesegoes with a plural noun, e.g. these results.

We can leave out the noun if the meaning is clear. I'm just having a look at this. That'snice, isn't it? Last month's figures were bad, but theseare worse.
